Seminar on Safety
On April 25, 2024, specialists of SE «National Institute for Development Infrastructure» presented their research and practical experience during an online seminar on procedures for identifying road traffic accident black spots and developing measures for their elimination, organized by the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine.
The event gathered more than 150 participants, including representatives of the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, the National Police of Ukraine, the Municipal Enterprise “Traffic Organization Center”, road asset managers for local roads and streets in settlements, as well as representatives of local communities.
During the seminar, the following topics were discussed:
– regulatory and legal framework for identifying road traffic accident concentration sites and practical approaches to its implementation;
– the mandatory nature of unscheduled safety inspections of such high-risk locations;
– challenges in identifying accident concentration sites in urban areas, particularly in million-plus cities with high traffic intensity;
– practical experience of the cities of Lviv and Vinnytsia in implementing road safety measures at high-risk locations, including both effective and ineffective interventions in terms of safety outcomes.
Timely identification of road traffic accident concentration sites contributes to improving road safety, as priority measures to improve road conditions are implemented at such locations.
The team of SE «NIDI» continues to actively work on improving Ukraine’s regulatory framework, particularly in the field of road safety (DSTU standards for road signs, road markings, traffic signals, etc.), taking into account best international practices. The Institute also has certified specialists for conducting road safety audits and inspections, thereby contributing to safer road infrastructure.
