Seminar on Safe Road Infrastructure
On May 16, 2024, the team of SE «National Institute for Development Infrastructure» held the webinar “SAFE ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE: Challenges and Prospects” as part of the All-Ukrainian Road Safety Week, with the participation of representatives of the Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, Ukrtransbezpeka, the Association of International Road Carriers of Ukraine (AsMAP UA), and many others.
The event brought together road transport operators as users of road infrastructure and road asset managers, all united by a common goal — improving road safety on highways.
To achieve this, it is important for transport companies to establish road safety management systems in accordance with international standards, in particular DSTU ISO 39001:2015 “Road Traffic Safety (RTS) Management Systems. Requirements with Guidance for Use” (ISO 39001:2012, IDT), to accelerate the implementation of smart tachographs for freight vehicles, to introduce road safety audits and inspections, to develop solutions for constructing rest areas for carriers, to improve the regulatory framework on road safety, and to create modern technical solutions for safe traffic organization.
In turn, the team of SE «NIDI» is actively working on improving Ukraine’s regulatory framework, particularly in the field of road safety (DSTU standards for road signs, road markings, and traffic signals, etc.), taking into account best international practices. The Institute also has certified specialists for conducting road safety audits and inspections, thereby contributing to improved road safety conditions. In addition, it develops proposals for methodologies to calculate socio-economic losses from road traffic accidents and improves principles for prioritizing works based on such losses.
