Bitumen quality as a guarantee of pavement durability

On 17 February 2021, a scientific and practical seminar “Bitumen quality as a guarantee of pavement durability” was held via Zoom.

We concluded a 7-hour international marathon on bitumen quality, organized by Ukravtodor and SE “DerzhdorNDI”.

More than 250 participants took part in the event, including:

  • representatives of regional road services, regional state administrations, design, research, and contracting organizations, as well as suppliers of innovative materials;
  • bitumen suppliers from Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Belarus;
  • researchers from Hungary, Italy, and Germany.

During the event, it was stated that the technical requirements for bitumen in Ukraine are similar to those in Europe, and in some indicators even stricter.

We also expect that the implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Providing Construction Products on the Market” will increase the responsibility of dishonest suppliers and improve the quality of raw materials (primarily bitumen), thereby increasing the durability of asphalt concrete pavements on highways.
