TRAFFIC MODELLING

On 18 November 2021, the Director of SE “DerzhdorNDI”, Artem Bezuglyi, took part in the PTV User Group Meeting, where the capabilities of modern software systems for traffic modelling were discussed.

At the event, the Director informed participants about the regulatory framework for traffic modelling in Ukraine.

SE “DerzhdorNDI” developed Amendment No. 2 to DBN V.2.3-4 on the design and construction of highways, which has already been approved by the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development and will come into force next year. This document will provide users with:

  • a clear definition of the term “TRAFFIC MODEL”;
  • the requirement to select design solutions and intersection configurations based on traffic modelling indicators;
  • the possibility to refine cross-sectional design based on traffic model analysis.

In addition, our team is actively working on methodological guidelines for traffic flow modelling to evaluate the effectiveness of design solutions for road infrastructure, which will include:

  • clear terms and definitions used in traffic modelling;
  • a recommended algorithm for model development;
  • input data parameters, as well as rules for model development, calibration, and validation.

Traffic modelling is a priority direction in the development of modern design documentation requirements aimed at the most effective reconstruction of Ukraine’s road infrastructure.
