Innovations in DBN for the design and construction of highways
On 16 November 2021, an online meeting was held where innovations expected for the 2022 road construction season were presented.
The Institute team developed Amendment No. 2 to DBN V.2.3-4:2015 “Highways. Part I. Design. Part II. Construction”, which will enter into force on 01.02.2022 according to the order of the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine dated 22.10.2021 No. 258.
Key innovations include:
- prohibition of indirect left turns at traffic volumes exceeding 20,000 vehicles/day;
- installation of permanent electric lighting on M-category I roads with traffic intensity over 30,000 vehicles/day;
- introduction of overpasses for pedestrians across category I–II roads;
- removal of dependence of pavement service life on traffic intensity;
- updated requirements for minimum thickness of non-rigid pavement layers;
- requirements for planning and design of cycling infrastructure, as well as ensuring accessibility for people with reduced mobility.
