FERROALLOY CRUSHED STONE

 “DerzhdorNDI” SE specialists continue to study the possibilities of crushed stone materials application in road construction, which are obtained by crushed and sieved slag from the manganese ferroalloys production.

Earlier we reported about the development of a new standard for technical conditions for crushed stone materials from metallurgical slag for road construction, and today we will present the results of laboratory researches of ferroalloy crushed stone materials produced by JSC "NIKOPOL FERROALLOYS PLANT".

According to the results of laboratory tests, it can be stated that the materials from the Nikopol plant meet the requirements of current regulations and can be used in two ways:

WITHOUT binders:

  • crushed stone of all fractions - for the application of layers of road pavement foundation;
  • sand and crushed stone of all fractions - for the production of crushed stone-sand mixtures.

WITH binders, for production of:

  • asphalt mixtures;
  • bituminous and organic-mineral mixtures;
  • black crushed stone or crushed stone treated with impregnation;
  • crushed stone-sand mixtures treated with inorganic binders.

Taking into account the scale and need for prompt implementation of  a “Big Construction” National Program for the practical implementation of the Decree of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On the use of industrial wastes in road construction”, we consider that it is appropriate to use these ferroalloy crushed stone materials in road recovery with appropriate feasibility study.

Use of such materials will allow the following:

  • to reduce the harmful impact of industrial production on the environment;
  • to ensure large-scale utilization of industrial wastes;
  • to get savings during performance of road construction works without compromising their quality.
