On 05–06 August 2021, the scientific and practical seminar “Current issues in the design of public highways” commenced. It was organized by Ukravtodor, SE “DerzhdorNDI”, Ukrdiprodor, and the Association “Ukrainian Association of Design Organizations”, with the support of the Road Service in the Cherkasy region.

More than 200 specialists participated in the event, including clients, designers, researchers, experts, and material suppliers, both in-person and online.

The opening of the seminar was attended by the Deputy Head of the State Road Agency of Ukraine, Andrii Ivko, who noted that the road sector is moving towards international quality standards; automation of the road design process is not just a prospect, but a key task today.

The main topics discussed during the event included:

  • updated building codes for road design and construction;
  • new standards for road markings and road signs;
  • road safety audit;
  • key issues and shortcomings in road design;
  • innovations in construction pricing and determination of design work costs;
  • modern information technologies in design.

To obtain high-quality design documentation, a set of measures is required:

  • a modern European regulatory framework;
  • clear qualification requirements and non-price criteria for selecting designers;
  • responsible work of certified specialists;
  • improved approaches to determining the cost of design works;
  • continuous professional development of responsible specialists.
