UN meeting
This week, Artem Bezuglyi, Director of the State Enterprise “National Institute for Infrastructure Development,” took part in the 120th session of the Working Party on Road Transport (SC.1) and the 39th session of the Group of Experts on the European Agreement concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles Engaged in International Road Transport (AETR) of the Inland Transport Committee of the UN Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva as part of the official delegation of the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian delegation also included the Head of Ukrtransbezpeka, Mykyta Lagunin, and the Acting Deputy Director of the State Enterprise “DerzhavtotransNDIproekt,” Roman Symonenko (who has chaired these meetings for more than 10 years!).
During the sessions, the participants discussed the development of safe and sustainable road infrastructure, reviewed prospects for the development of trans-European motorways, and exchanged practical experience on implementing road safety audits and inspections in accordance with Directive 2008/96/EC of the European Parliament of 19 November 2008 on road infrastructure safety management.
The meetings also focused on:
-
strategic issues of horizontal and cross-sectoral policies related to the implementation of UN international conventions and agreements in the field of inland transport;
-
development of intelligent transport systems;
-
introduction of electronic consignment notes (e-CMR);
-
implementation of smart tachographs and the TACHOnet system;
-
simplification of visa issuance for professional drivers, among others.
Most importantly, thanks to the coordinated work of the Ukrainian delegation and the support of our international partners, the representatives of the Russian aggressor were prevented from advancing decisions that would allow them to bypass sanctions in the transport sector.
