BUSINESS TRIP - DAY 2
Artem Bezuglyi, Director of “DerzhdorNDI” SE, and Volodymyr Kaskiv, Deputy Director for Scientific Work, continue to gain experience during their business trip to Georgia.
The photo below is the local road, the approach to the landfill, where the trucks moved on daily. This road was built in 2012 and has never been repaired since.
Its lifetime is 20 years. During the construction of this road, the rolled compacted concrete technology (18cm layer) and stabilization of soils with ash application were used. The top layer of the pavement is a thin 2 cm layer of asphalt concrete.
Such technical solution should be considered during the repair of territorial roads of Ukraine. It is due to the fact that such technology allows reducing the road construction cost and solving the environmental problem.
One of the main factors hindering the implementation of this practice in Ukraine is the conservatism of individual customers, designers or experts, who indicate that regulations do not provide for the use of such technologies.
Georgia does not have its own regulatory framework at all. Road workers take best practices from different countries and apply them in practice.
Another constraint is our imperfect pricing system, which does not stimulate innovations.
Georgia's experience shows that we are on the right way to reform the pricing system in construction. And the sooner the reforms take place, the sooner new materials and technologies will be introduced at our facilities, and the cost of road construction will decrease.
