Modern approaches to the design and construction of highways
On 11 June 2020, a scientific and practical webinar “Modern approaches to the design and construction of highways” was held via Zoom.
More than 300 participants joined online, and 40 presentations were delivered.
The results of the seminar were impressive: during 9 hours and 15 minutes of a continuous online marathon, participants had the opportunity to learn about:
- modern updates in legislative and regulatory documents for road design and construction, including road safety measures;
- criteria for optimal selection of bitumen grades in pavement structure design;
- capabilities of modern additives for soil stabilization and bitumen modification;
- practical recommendations for the use of asphalt mixture transfer systems (reclaimers/pavers);
- options for strengthening existing asphalt pavements with cement concrete, including roller-compacted concrete;
- possibilities of using industrial waste in road construction;
- modern materials for reinforcement and waterproofing of bridge concrete structures, as well as engineering equipment for structures;
- feasibility of installing different types of road safety barriers on public roads and in urban areas;
- modern European solutions for improving road safety (plastic delineator posts and colored barrier systems);
- use and potential of modern information databases for data processing and storage (BIM, CREDO, AESUM);
- importance of designing wildlife crossings (eco-passages);
- modern trends in drainage design;
- potential use of bioenergy willow and wind energy conversion systems, etc.
The seminar gained international status, as presentations were delivered not only by Ukrainian speakers but also by experts from:
- Germany;
- South Korea;
- Poland;
- Belarus.
