Modern geoinformation technologies in the road sector
On 17.02.2016, a scientific and practical seminar “Modern geoinformation technologies in the road sector” was held at SE “Ukrdiprodor”.
“The Geographic Information System of highways should become an important tool for the management of Ukravtodor to make objective decisions and should contribute to establishing public control over the work of road workers,” said Mykola Berezovskyi, Adviser to the Head of Ukravtodor and Head of the Coordination Group for Information Support of the Road Sector of Ukraine, opening the scientific and practical seminar “Modern geoinformation technologies in the road sector”.
At present, Ukravtodor has developed sectoral software and analytical systems that automate information processing and optimize the planning of road repair works (Road Pavement Management System (RPMS), Analytical Expert Bridge Management System (AESUM), and the sectoral database for road traffic accident records (SRD RTA)). The regulatory framework for information support in the road sector has been significantly improved in recent years. A number of standards have been developed and implemented to regulate systematic and structured information activities in line with modern global trends.
Therefore, all prerequisites have been created for the deployment of a Geographic Information System for the roads of Ukraine in order to transition to planning the allocation of financial resources exclusively based on objective data on the condition of roads and structures.
In view of the above, following the seminar, regional road services were instructed to:
- ensure continuous support and data updating of Ukravtodor’s software and analytical systems (RPMS, AESUM, SRD RTA);
- initiate procurement procedures for information support services (determination of spatial coordinates and main geometric parameters of the public road network of state importance, and carrying out road and bridge inventory);
- take measures to ensure the operability and continuous functioning of automatic traffic intensity and composition counters, road weather stations, and video cameras.
