Problematic aspects of pricing in construction

On 19 November 2020, a round table “Problematic aspects of pricing in construction” was held via Zoom.

The event was attended by more than 200 participants, including:

  • Clients, Designers, and Contractors;
  • Engineering and consulting companies;
  • Expert organizations and scientific institutions;
  • Software developers;
  • Public and other organizations.

The purpose of the event was to hear from the professional cost-estimating community about problematic issues in construction pricing and to develop appropriate amendments to the rules for determining construction costs and the rules for determining the cost of design and survey works.

During the discussion, all specialists concluded that it is necessary to:

  • move to a single type of contract price under budget financing – a fixed price;
  • simplify documentation forms and reduce the number of documents;
  • not abolish the resource-based pricing method, but apply it correctly, as it is effective at the investor’s estimate stage;
  • define a clear mechanism for monitoring material prices;
  • align the pricing system with best international practices.
