2024 Year in Review
We are nearing the end of one of the toughest years in the life of every Ukrainian!
It’s the 1,042nd day of the war, nearly three years since the Ukrainian nation began fighting against Russian occupiers and terrorists. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our brave and heroic defenders from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who, at the cost of their own health and lives, protect each of us and defend our right to live in an independent Ukraine.
The last day of the year is usually spent reflecting on the past year, on its key achievements, important events, successes, and results.
!? What has 2024 meant for the team of the state enterprise "National Institute for Infrastructure Development"?
Rebranding and Expansion
The Institute underwent rebranding and expanded its areas of activity:
- Our organization now not only addresses scientific and technical issues in road management but also provides scientific and technical support for the construction of fortifications, tunnels, and protective structures for energy infrastructure facilities.
- Our specialists inspected dozens of fortification complexes and hundreds of kilometers of defensive lines in the Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, and Donetsk regions.
Heroic Work of Our Bridge Division
The Bridge Division accomplished extraordinary tasks:
- Tested two unique drawbridges in Mykolaiv Oblast and the Darnytskyi Bridge in Kyiv.
- Inspected and tested a unique, high-risk ammonia pipeline across the Dnipro River, spanning 720 meters.
- Examined 162 bridges and tested 17 transport structures within record timelines, including those classified as critical infrastructure.
- Updated the Automated Bridge Management System (ABMS) with current data to inform strategic and tactical decisions for restoring bridges, maintaining their functionality, and ensuring safe operation.
Scientific Achievements
As a powerful scientific institution, we attained significant milestones:
- Published 56 scientific articles in professional journals, including 5 in Scopus-indexed journals and 2 in international publications; our staff also made 61 presentations at scientific conferences and seminars.
- Held 58 sessions of the Scientific and Technical Council, reviewing over 50 research works from the Institute, NTU, and KhNADU.
- Published two professional collections of scientific works titled "Roads and Bridges" with 68 relevant articles for the road sector, along with a compendium of abstracts from the 3rd All-Ukrainian Scientific Conference for Young Scientists.
- Updated the Young Scientists Council, now consisting of 7 young researchers from the Institute.
Updated Standards and Regulations
We revised construction norms and national standards for roads and bridges, aligning them with European and American standards, including:
- Updated DBNs on core requirements for the design of bridges and culverts.
- A series of national standards for road cement concretes.
- A set of national standards defining requirements for geoinformation systems for public roads.
Enhanced Communication with Key Stakeholders
- Conducted 11 editions of the Innovation Platform (45 total) and supported the Innovation Portal, which now serves 377 registered participants from 241 companies across Ukraine.
- Organized 8 scientific-practical events, drawing over 600 participants from both national and international levels.
- Held 10 public presentations of key normative documents on road cement concrete, two bridge-related DBNs, and national standards.
- Discussed issues of technical terminology in construction in the context of modern Ukrainian orthography on a national level.
- Enhanced qualifications for 51 specialists across 9 areas and certified 14 experts, subsequently adding them to the Unified State Register of Certified Specialists in Construction (ЄДЕССБ).
Accreditations and Digitalization
- Obtained accreditation from NAAU for the Institute’s Main Testing Center and the Personnel Certification Body.
- Fully transitioned to an automated document management system (ASKOD) using digital electronic signatures for internal and official correspondence.
International Cooperation
- Strengthened international ties, including establishing close contact with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

We sincerely thank every member of our team for their dedication and hard work, for your contribution to preserving Ukraine's scientific potential, without which the restoration of our infrastructure would be impossible.
We wish you all a Happy New Year 2025! We all believe that very soon, the one and only wish of our entire nation will come true.
Wishing you robust health, boundless energy, and strength! May God protect our defenders, who shield us from the Russian invaders.
