ONLINE PRESENTATION OF SUPERPAVE

                               

Today, "DerzhdorNDI" SE team together with American, European, and Ukrainian colleagues held an

 online presentation of the modern American system of  SUPERPAVE asphalt mixtures design.

The event was attended by more than 100 participants from the USA, Italy, Poland and

Ukraine: customers, contractors, designers, suppliers of modern equipment, bitumen producers, and other institutions who actively participated in the event.

It is worth reminding that the SUPERPAVE:

- was developed in the USA in the 90s;

- sets requirements for the selection of bitumen, aggregates, and other components of asphalt mix, as well as their ratio depending on climatic conditions, traffic load, and depth of asphalt concrete location in the pavement structure;

- sets requirements for further assessment of water, rutting and crack resistance of the designed asphalt concrete;

- has high efficiency, which is confirmed by 30 years of experience;

- reduces rutting and cracking, as well as extends the service life of asphalt concrete layers;

- is used in many countries around the world, including the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and is also gaining popularity in a number of other developed countries, including the European Union.

             "DerzhdorNDI" SE specialists have already done a lot of work on the possibility of SUPERPAVE system implementation in Ukraine:

- analyzed the climatic conditions of asphalt concrete operation according to the data of 150 metrological stations for the period from 2005 to 2022;

- determined the necessary characteristics of bitumen in accordance with the SUPERPAVE system, depending on the level of reliability, traffic load and depth of asphalt concrete in the pavement structure, which will ensure the rutting and crack resistance of asphalt concrete;

- conducted a study of fine-grained and coarse-grained asphalt mixtures and established the recommended parameters for their compaction;

- carried out work to adapt the method of gyratory compaction of asphalt mixtures in the laboratory and the research on the design of crushed stone mastic asphalt mixtures.

In the future, we plan to implement the results obtained during the implementation of road rehabilitation projects.

It is important to create all the necessary conditions for the implementation of modern American practices, in particular the SUPERPAVE system. However, it is definitely necessary to solve the issue of finding sources of funding for the purchase of SUPERPAVE equipment for all key market participants.
