BRIDGE CONFERENCE
From November 1 to 3, the 3rd International Scientific and Practical Conference named after P.M. Koval, “Current Issues of Bridge Management and Ways to Improve It,” was held in a hybrid format (in person in Ivano-Frankivsk and online via Zoom). The conference was organized by the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine and the State Enterprise “DerzhdorNDI”.
More than 250 bridge engineering professionals from all regions of Ukraine, the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, and Hungary gathered at the event.
The topic of bridges is extremely important due to the need to ensure the safety of regions and the country as a whole. During the event, a wide range of issues was discussed:
– innovations in the regulatory framework for the design, operation, and testing of transport structures;
– key methods and modern technologies for bridge inspection and condition assessment;
– international experience in regulatory support, inspection, and restoration of transport structures;
– results of inspections of bridges damaged by blast loads and recommendations for their restoration;
– capabilities of modern information, analytical, and expert systems;
– advanced materials and technologies for the restoration of transport structures.
Based on the conference results, a resolution was prepared and will be submitted to public authorities:
– legally protect expenditures for the development and maintenance of bridge structures;
– ensure timely bridge inspections and certification, with mandatory inclusion of information in the AESUM software system;
– promote the implementation of automated bridge condition monitoring systems;
– require scientific and technical support during the design and construction stages to implement modern international practices and address non-standard issues, especially for bridges damaged by blast loads;
– use modern information tools in planning the development and maintenance of transport structures;
– improve the competency level of specialists involved in the development and maintenance of bridge infrastructure, including through specialized training on bridge testing and load-carrying capacity assessment;
– consider and develop options for the production and use of prefabricated temporary modular steel bridges and the creation of a reserve stock;
– ensure active work on updating key national bridge construction standards, taking into account current challenges in the road sector.
We are sincerely grateful to all participants for their active contribution to the Conference and wish everyone success and inspiration in the restoration of our country!
