UNECE ITC
During February 19-23, 2024, in Geneva, as a member of the official delegation of the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, Artem Bezuglyi, Director of SE NIDI, took part in the 34th session of the Group of Experts on the European Agreement Concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles Engaged in International Road Transport and the 86th session of the Inland Transport Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.
During the meetings, the Ukrainian delegation:
- Defended the extension of sanctions restrictions against the Russian Federation, according to which Russian carriers cannot carry out international road transportation in many countries of the world due to the lack of special driver cards for tachographs (these are devices that record the time drivers spend behind the wheel to avoid violations of rest and work hours).
- Discussed strategic issues of horizontal and cross-sectoral policy on the implementation of international conventions and UN agreements in the field of inland transport, challenges and new trends in inland transport in different regions, development of intelligent transport systems, road safety, transportation of dangerous goods, intensification of work on border crossing facilitation, intermodal transport and logistics, inland waterway transport, transport statistics, activities related to the Trans-European Motorway projects.
- Participated in the high-level segment on transport policy, which will be carried out by the relevant ministries of different countries of the world on the common theme "Taking ambitious climate action - towards decarbonization of inland transport by 2050".
It is important that our Ukrainian representative, Roman Symonenko, Deputy Head of the Center for Scientific Research of Complex Transport Problems of DerzhavtotransNDIproekt SE, was once again re-elected as the Deputy Chairman of the UNECE ITC Bureau.
However, the most important result of participation in the meetings of the UNWC is that our ministerial delegation, with the support of European partners, managed to block all attempts by the Russian aggressor to amend the European Agreement Concerning the Work of Crews of Vehicles and the decisions of the UNWC, which would have led to the Russian Federation's circumvention of the relevant sanctions.
