A living legend of road science of the Soviet Union, the developer of industrial waste using technologies in road construction. During the Great Patriotic War in 1943, he was sent to Nazi Germany for forced labor in Saar mines, and then transferred to the Dachau concentration camp. In 1945 he was released and returned home. 7 years later he was graduated from Lviv Polytechnic Institute.
After the war he worked as head of the production and technical department, later – as chief engineer. He graduated in 1959 from the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakhstan SSR, worked in the Kazakhstan branch of SoyuzdorNDI. In 1964 he defended his dissertation and received the degree of PhD. The results of his dissertation had practical application in the construction of virgin lands.

He has a number of inventions, numerous scientific works. One of the main achievements of Vasyl Volodko there was a solution to the problems of using industrial waste in road construction. According to his developments, big amounts of industrial waste were used, in particular Heating Power Plants removal ash, metallurgical slag, cement production waste, and the wastes of coal industry.
Vasyl Volodko was a pioneer in the development and implementation in practice of road construction of tar and other coal binders modified by polymers. Under his leadership and direct participation, cement-organic-mineral mixtures were developed, which are still used today. The work of the department under the leadership of Vasyl Volodko repeatedly awarded diplomas and medals during the then Exhibitions of Economic Achievements.
- Volodymyr Hryhorovych Alieiev (95) - combatant, veteran of war, disabled person of the 2nd group.

She studied the properties of cold bitumen-mineral mixtures, bitumen emulsions use, improving the properties of binders and bituminous-mineral materials for road construction. During the whole period of her work she took an active part in the public life of the institute. She is an author of a number of scientific papers.
- Olha Andriivna Linska (85), veteran of the war labor front.
