HARMONIZATION OF STANDARDS

“DerzhdorNDI” SE specialists developed the final editions of the national standards, harmonized with the European standards, for determination of the shape of coarse aggregates grains and for the recovery of bituminous emulsions and thin bitumen binder, namely:

DSTU EN 933-3: 202_ (EN 933-3: 2012, IDT) "Test methods for determination of the geometric characteristics of aggregates. Part 3. Determination of shape of grain. Plate form factor”;

DSTU EN 933-4: 202_ (EN 933-4: 2008, IDT) "Test methods for determination of the geometric characteristics of aggregates. Part 4. Determination of shape of grain. Shape factor";

DSTU EN 13074-1: 202_ (EN 13074-1: 2019, IDT) “Bitumen and bituminous binders. Recovery of binder from bitumen emulsions and bitumen binders thinned with a volatile solvent or a non-volatile thinner. Part 1. Evaporation recovery”;

DSTU EN 13074-2: 202_ (EN 13074-2: 2019, IDT) “Bitumen and bituminous binders. Recovery of binder from bitumen emulsions and bitumen binders thinned with a volatile solvent or a non-volatile thinner. Part 2.  Stabilization after evaporation recovery”.

According to DSTU EN 933-3, the plate form factor is calculated as the total mass of grains sieved through the slit sieves and evaluated as a percentage of the total weight of the dried test grains.

According to DSTU EN 933-4: 202, the shape factor is calculated as the weight of grains with a sizes ratio of more than 3, evaluated as a percentage of the total weight of the dried test grains.

According to DSTU EN 13074-1, bitumen binder firstly kept in a thin layer at environmental  temperatures for 24 hours and then at 50 ° C for next 24 hours.

According to DSTU EN 13074-2: 202 standard, the bitumen binder recovered according to DSTU EN 13074-1 is stabilized in a ventilated oven for 24 hours at 85 ° C.

The test results according to DSTU EN 933-3 and DSTU EN 933-4: 202 are used to determine the aggregate category by grain shape according to tables 7 and 8 of DSTU EN 13043: 2013, which determines its area of use.

After performing of the procedures in accordance with DSTU EN 13074-1 and DSTU EN 13074-2: 202, the obtained bitumen binder is used for standard tests.

The implementation of harmonized standards of DSTU EN 933-3, DSTU EN 933-4: 202, DSTU EN 13074-1 and DSTU EN 13074-2: 202 will allow to determine the grain shape of coarse aggregate and use the best European experience when testing bituminous binders.
