DBN on the DESIGN OF BRIDGES AND PIPES

The team at the State Enterprise “National Institute for Development Infrastructure” continues to actively work on improving Ukraine's regulatory framework in the field of bridge construction.

Today, January 1, 2026, DBN V.2.3-22:2025 "Bridges and Pipes. Basic Design Requirements“ developed by the team of the SE ”NIDI" and approved by Order of the Ministry of Development No. 1261 dated August 14, 2025.

The new DBN replaces DBN V.2.3-22:2009 and establishes modern requirements for the design of new construction, reconstruction, and major repairs of bridges and culverts, as well as covering pedestrian and bicycle crossings and underground bio-crossings, and drawbridges (except for drawbridge mechanisms).

Key innovations of DBN V.2.3-22:2025:

  •  clarification of the basic requirements for bridge structures and the service life of their elements;
  •  an approach to reliability has been defined and the reliability coefficient for bridge liability has been specified depending on the class of consequences;
  •  Establishing the design service life for critical bridge and pipe elements;
  •  Taking into account the provisions of European standards;
  •  Regulating provisions on accessibility;
  •  Separately identifying facilities for pedestrians and cyclists and underground pedestrian crossings as part of the scope of application of the standards.
