Current issues in the design of public highways
On 12–13 June 2019, a scientific and practical seminar “Current issues in the design of public highways” was held in Zaporizhzhia.
Based on discussions with leading design specialists at the scientific and practical seminar “Current issues in the design of public highways”, held in Zaporizhzhia, it was concluded that to improve the system of designing road construction projects, the following is necessary:
- introduction of a medium-term road development planning system – the project work plan should be clearly defined for at least 3 years;
- implementation of BIM and GIS technologies in highway design, as well as visualization of design solutions;
- improvement of the professional certification system for responsible construction specialists – introduction of an electronic knowledge assessment system and the possibility of training in higher education institutions;
- increase in the cost of design works;
- development of competition in the design services market through the use of non-price criteria and the rejection of the negotiated procurement procedure.
