TESTING OF BRIDGES
The team of “National Institute of Infrastructure Development” SE continues to carry out dynamic and static testing of bridges on public roads.
So, last week, the specialists of the Transport Structures Research Department tested 2 structures in Ternopil region after the completion of repair works on them:
- a bridge on the M-19 Domanove - Kovel - Chernivtsi - Terebleche highway (to Bucharest);
- an overpass on the P-41 road bypassing Ternopil.
For the test, it was decided to use loads from 3 4-axle trucks with an average weight of about 33 tons each. Before loading the structures, they were run-in - single truck passes in both directions (12 passes) at different speeds - from 10 km/h to 60 km/h. Then the structures were loaded according to three schemes with the entire load placed in each run with traffic and pedestrians closed. During the test, controlled instrumental responses were recorded and monitored, with dynamic and static deflections measured by a strain gauge-based recording system, and static deflections measured by deflection meters.
Based on the results of the tests, we obtained the actual characteristics of the bridge elements and structures, performed a technical assessment of their bearing capacity, determined the dynamic characteristics and actual load capacity of the spans, and provided recommendations for the balance holder for their further operation.
We continue to work to strengthen our defense capabilities and ensure safe and reliable travel on our country's highways.
