Today, according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine, is the Day of Remembrance for the defenders of Ukraine who died in the struggle for independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the state.
This day is a national act of honor, gratitude, and mourning. We remember the Ilovaisk tragedy, the massive shelling of Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and hundreds of other cities and towns throughout Ukraine... We remember everyone who has stood up to defend Ukraine since 2014 — volunteers, military personnel, medics, and volunteers. Their feat is the foundation of our freedom.
Today, our hearts are also filled with pain after the night attack on August 28, which was one of the largest air attacks on Kyiv in recent times, in connection with which a day of mourning has been declared in Kyiv.
It is no coincidence that today's symbol is the sunflower — a flower that grew in the fields of Ilovaisk, a sign of memory, strength, and resilience.
This day is not only about the past. It is about responsibility to those who are no longer with us. It is about the duty to live with dignity, to fight honestly, and to remember forever.
We remember every defender, every victim of this war.
We are united in grief, but also in our determination to survive, rebuild, and win.
Kyiv is a city of the unbreakable. Ukraine is a country of the dignified. The light of memory is our guide in the darkness.
Glory to Ukraine!
